The Piper PA30 left Fort Myers and was headed to Bimini when it crashed off Boca Raton. The pilot, the only person on board, escaped injury.

An investigation is underway after the Boca Raton Police Department said a small aircraft crashed into the water late Saturday morning. Police said the single-engine plane hit the water near South Ocean Boulevard around 10:25 a.m. The sole occupant was uninjured but taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution.

The pilot was in communication with Boca Raton Fire Rescue as she navigated her way towards the ocean and ultimately crashed — or ditched — the plane into the ocean. No injuries were reported. The pilot was immediately rescued. The NTSB will investigate.
